Thread makes a difference

This is one of my own quilts. The pattern is “Chasing Dreams” by Jacqueline De Jonge. The vivid batik colours and intricate paper piecing needed to be highlighted but thread choice would be key.

The first step was Stitch in the Ditch to highlight the intricate paper piecing. MonoPoly invisible thread is a favourite for precise stitch in the ditch. Next I quilted the coloured batik pieces using a smoke Microquilter by Superior Threads. The thin weight accented the quilting but blended well and did not distract from the palate of the fabrics. To frame the flying geese and accent the feathers Glide provided just the right sheen. The border had a unique fabric that would not show quilting well, and I wanted something a little special. A metallic thread provided nice movement and a unique touch to the border.

This quilt is the perfect example of how thread can provide critical accents to the quilt and provide the perfect spice without overpowering the dish.
